In other words, I had a lot in common with Rivers Cuomo.

I was the kind of child who stayed inside to invent my own X-Men while other kids were out playing basketball - so uncool that I could only imagine what cool might be. I don’t think I even knew who the recently deceased Kurt Cobain was at that point that came the following school year when kids in my fifth-grade class started wearing T-shirts with Cobain’s face plastered across the front. I was entranced by the idea of rock ‘n’ roll without actually having experienced much of it yet. I hadn’t yet crossed the threshold from sheltered church kid to faithful MTV viewer, but that world held immeasurable allure for me. Sure, those in attendance would have preferred less rain and more music, but they loved every minute of the party that rolled through town.I didn’t know my cousins from Cleveland all that well, so it was startling to see the two of them out in the street in front of my other cousins’ house, climbing up each other’s backs, shouting with loopy abandon, “If you want to destroy my sweater/ Hold this thread as I walk away!/ Watch me unravel, I’ll soon be naked!/ Lying on the floor, I’ve come undone!” It was summer 1994, around the time of my eleventh birthday. Kesha's anthem "Praying" brought many to tears, but her entire set showed she's a pop start without the "diva" label. Her set started off with plenty of f-bombs and middle fingers in the air, but she clearly had a blast from the first notes of "Woman." She even joked that her ass wasn't hanging out of her leotard enough. He brought crowd members on stage, threw things into the crowd and never stopped dancing from one side of the stage to the other. Macklemore opened up the night with an eight-song run through his biggest hits. In Charlotte, they acted like it was an extension of Macklemore spraying water on the crowd or Kesha's confetti bombs. Usually when it rains, concert-goers run for cover. The pop stars brought a party to Charlotte last night and rain didn't hold anyone back. Those in attendance didn't care because they were too busy having a great time. I also heard that the sets by Kesha and Macklemore were cut short by two songs each. Someone said there were massive downpours at PNC Music Pavilion last night.

As Ann Wilson said, "It's a night full of music performed by people with real voices and instruments." Plenty of modern musicians should take notes. There might not have been many people in attendance but those who were soaked in every minute of classic rock. (Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring even made the drive up from Atlanta just to see him.) The night was opened by John Bonham's sister, Deborah. The legendary guitarist simply shredded every note and showed why he's at or near the top of so many best guitarist lists. Meanwhile, it was Beck who lit up the night from start to finish. While Rodgers filled his performance with songs from Bad Company and Free, Ann Wilson of Heart focused more on covers of music that influenced her and meant something to her. Who says you can't get better with age? The trio of rock icons hit Charlotte's PNC Music Pavilion on Sunday night and proved they've still got what it takes to hit all the right notes. The show continues tonight, as The Voice brings more talent on stage for blind auditions to vie for the attention of the stars in their chairs.

But he never stopped singing, and made it to the stage of The Voice, garnering the praise of country music stars Clarkson and Shelton.Īfter the premiere, Marlowe took to Twitter and stated, “Thanks to everybody for your support and especially for turning your chair glad to have you as my coach.” When his mother was diagnosed with a degenerative disc injury, he dropped out of college and picked up a job to help out. Marlowe began singing in his church at 10 years old and joined a band in high school. In the car, his grandfather would play country music as they drove around.

The 21-year-old revealed that his love for singing and country music began when his grandfather would take him hunting and fishing in the countryside. Marlowe quickly accepted the offer for Shelton’s team, expressing his gratitude for the surreal moment. Afterward, Levine told Marlowe that he immediately regretted not turning his chair around.
